Toy Review: The LEGO® Double-Decker Couch

So a few days ago I was able to do a toy review of the new set from The LEGO® Movie:

January 1st marked the release of the highly anticipated set from The Lego Movie! The long-awaited Double-Decker Couch! Why was this set so important? This set marks the only time (so far) that Ghost Vitruvius has been made available.

This set is recommended for Ages 7-14 (and us adults!), and contains 197 pieces.

The instructions are fairly simple, with each piece having a step-by-step guide. It took me about 10 minutes to sort everything and have the whole set built. I’d say it’s a fairly easy set to put together. There are some tricky pieces when putting the two couch sections together, because they want to fall apart when you’re putting the supports on. The couch ladders aren’t sturdy as they are flip ups, but that’s okay. It doesn’t detract from the fun of this as a collectible piece. If you’re playing with it, I could see it becoming a problem. That’s the only downside. Now let’s not forget that this set comes with Emmet’s car as well. It goes together really easily and the roof is removable so you can put a minifig inside. The doors also open. I’ve decided that’s the only place I’ll keep Emmet’s hat because frankly, it’s awkward since it doesn’t go on his head unless you remove the hair.

My favorite parts of this set are the minifigures. Princess Unikitty has a new sitting position with two facial expressions. Benny is adorable and his facial expressions are great. Even his little helmet is “broken”. President Business got a makeover as well. He has his “sad/concerned” face which is hilarious. Of course Emmet is there, and my favorite by far is Ghost Vitruvius! He glows in the dark and has his lollipop staff. He looks exactly as he did in the movie except that his cape is blue with silver foil on the inside instead of white. Frankly, it looks better.

Overall, this set is a lot of fun and is a great display piece. The minifigs can sit on the couch (as in be locked in) so they don’t fly around everywhere.

I give it four out of five stars.
