I’m taking a small break from packing at the moment to write a quick blurb. Tomorrow the movers come to start packing up all of our stuff. That’s right, we’re moving again! I think I mentioned that on my vlog. Anyway – the house is literally turned upside down right now and I’m trying to sort through things that we’ll need once we get to Houston. We have a couple of cons coming up in the next two months, so instead of risking the things I need being in storage, I’m going to pack them right along with my daily necessities. I’m using a system similar to how I pack for big conventions (Dragon*Con, anyone?)

So if you find yourself in a similar situation, feel free to check out these helpful tips!

Clothing: If your things are going to be in storage for a bit after you move, make sure you pack enough clothing. Not your entire wardrobe, but enough for a couple of weeks. This includes everything for the season, some work clothes, and even a nice outfit or two.

• Pants / shorts
• Underoos
• Socks
• Comfy shoes
• PJs
• Work clothes
• Nice outfit or two

Costumes: If, like me, you aren’t sure when the movers will be bringing your things to your new place, and if you have anything fragile, it’s best to pack the things you need for a con ahead of time and just bring it with you.

• List each costume and pieces for it. I actually have a spreadsheet of this I do yearly.
• Wigs and wig caps
• Accessories
• Wig stand and styling tools
• Shoes
• Props

Toiletries: While it’s not too bad if you run out of something in your new locale, it’s just easier to plan ahead.

• Shampoo / conditioner
• Toothbrush, toothpaste
• Deodorant
• Body wash
• Loofa
• Makeup remover
• Hairspray / gel / mousse
• Hair dryer, styling tools, combs, brushes, etc
• Shaving kit
• Cosmetics
• First aid kit (You’d be surprised)
• Contact solution, case, glasses

Medication: Be sure to bring your medication with you! Don’t let it get packed up.

Bedding: If you’re going to be on an air mattress for a while (before your stuff arrives or after it leaves your current place), make sure you bring bedding for it.

Laundry Supplies: Living out of a suitcase is a pain, but there are always laundromats around to help keep some of the bulk down. Make sure to pack some detergent, a laundry bag or two, and some dryer sheets. That way you can pack less clothing and still be in good shape.

Cleaning Supplies: Oh yeah, you’re going to need this to clean your former place AND the new one. Movers also will not pack any chemicals, so you’re either going to throw them away at the old place and buy new ones, or you can just bring them with you.
